A launch review should start with the exact products and sales model. Different categories can create different obligations.
Check the product first
Confirm classification, required labels, import conditions, and evidence supporting your claims. For covered products, Japan’s updated product-safety framework includes obligations for overseas sellers dealing directly with Japanese consumers. Review METI’s overseas-operator guidance.
Make the transaction clear
Mail-order rules address seller information, pricing, shipping, payment, delivery, and return disclosures. Review the final order-confirmation experience as well as the policy pages. Advertising must not mislead. The Consumer Affairs Agency sets out the relevant mail-order requirements.
Assign responsibility
Document who is responsible for the import, product documentation, customer enquiries, and tax treatment. Arrange a review of applicable privacy and data-handling requirements. A platform or supplier relationship does not, by itself, answer all these questions.
Have qualified advisers confirm the obligations that apply to your model before launch, and revisit the review when your products or fulfilment arrangements change.
